The idea

Keeping an app or script running on Windows should not mean leaving a console window open or writing your own service wrapper.

Designed for developers, IT admins, and anyone on Windows who needs a program or script to run in the background as a service.

About this product

A lot of useful software was never written to be a Windows service: a Node.js or Python API, a Java app, a batch file that syncs a folder, a small tool somebody wrote years ago. Run it in a console window and it stops the moment you sign out, Windows restarts for an update, or the program crashes overnight. Writing a real service wrapper for each one is a chore.

Solace Service turns any of them into a proper Windows service in a few clicks. Fill in the program, its folder and its arguments in the desktop app (or one line in the CLI or PowerShell), and Windows will start it at boot and keep it running. You choose the startup type, log stdout and stderr to rotating files, add health checks with automatic restart, set environment variables, run it under another account, and hook scripts before and after start and stop. The Manager shows every service you installed with its status, CPU and memory, logs and console output, and lets you start, stop, edit, export or remove each one.

The apps make no network calls of their own: there is no update check and no telemetry. It is a self-contained build, so no separate .NET install is needed. Installing services needs administrator rights. Verify the published SHA-256 on this ZIP.

System and package

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11, or Windows Server 2016 or later, 64-bit
  • Administrator rights to install, start and stop services
  • Self-contained build: no separate .NET runtime install is needed (the download is about 233 MB)
  • Verify the published SHA-256 checksum before use

Install

Solace Service runs the programs you choose with the account you choose, often Local System. Only wrap software you trust, and keep its files where non-administrators cannot change them.

Read the Solace Service help page (linked above) before your first install. It covers the CLI, the PowerShell module, protected variables, logs and how to uninstall cleanly.

First launch on Windows

The app isn’t code-signed yet, so the first time you open it Windows may show “Windows protected your PC.” Click More info, then Run anyway. After you buy, you can check the ZIP against the SHA-256 on this page. Questions: solacesoftware@smilingface.cloud

Published package checksum

After you buy, you can check that your download is exactly this file: same name, same size, same SHA-256.

  • File: Solace-Service-10.3-solace.3-Windows-x64.zip
  • Size: 233289272 bytes
  • SHA-256: 1d68e9d6362d6f694d0d99bc938f87f4adede2e7fe8613acd3c98c55da5d372e
