The idea
Long work sessions feel solitary, and most desktop pets come with accounts, launchers or heavy downloads. Solace Pet is a single small app with one original character, for a one-time price.
Designed for Windows users who want a cute companion on their desktop while they work or stream.
About this product
Long stretches at the keyboard get quiet. A little character on the screen that notices you is a surprisingly nice bit of company, but most desktop pets want an account, a launcher or a stream of downloads.
Solace Pet is one small Windows app with one original character: Sola, a round cloud with a sun peeking out behind her. She sits above the taskbar, bounces along while you type, looks around, falls asleep after two minutes without input and wakes up when you come back. Drag her anywhere, poke her with a click, or double-click for a happy hop. The tray menu sets her size, keeps her on top of other windows, turns on a 25-minute cheer timer and, only if you ask, starts her with Windows.
Sola never reads what you type. Solace Pet installs no keyboard or mouse hooks; it only asks Windows when the last input happened, which is enough to tell typing from idle. The app makes no network connections of its own and has no account.
System and package
- Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit
- Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime (built into Windows 11 and current Windows 10)
- No installer or administrator rights needed; the download is about 7 MB
- Verify the published SHA-256 checksum before use
Install
Unzip the folder anywhere and run SolacePet.exe. Sola appears above the taskbar at the bottom-right of your main screen; click or right-click the little cloud in the tray for the menu.
Settings are stored in %AppData%\cloud.smilingface.solacepet. To remove the app, turn off Start with Windows if you enabled it, quit from the tray and delete the folder.
First launch on Windows
The app isn’t code-signed yet, so the first time you open it Windows may show “Windows protected your PC.” Click More info, then Run anyway. After you buy, you can check the ZIP against the SHA-256 on this page. Questions: solacesoftware@smilingface.cloud
